View Full Version : How can I dismiss the Ascetic Taoist?

Most of the time, the Ascetic Taoist is very welcome and very helpful. There are occasions, however, when his help is a nuisance, and I'd like to get rid of him. One example is when I'm trying to raise my hunt level by taming a bunch of monsters. He usually manages to kill them before my taming skill kicks in. He seems to be demand driven, sharing time among players in the vicinity. Sometimes I can just waste some time and he'll go help someone else. But if I'm the only player in the area (which happens a lot), he hangs around and I can't get rid of him. A shortcut key to dismiss the Ascetic Taoist would be very welcome.

Yeah, there is no way to "dismiss" them per se. However, if you get really tired of him hanging around you can run to the city and he will leave. Then, you can ride back to where you were previously and continue till he shows again.
Or, the easier way, which is to work on your timing while catching mobs. You can actually time it where you hit a mob a time or two, then you begin the catching skill, while the ascetic taoist gets a few hits in while you catch.
This works because once you hit the mob a couple times, it makes the ascetic taoist aggro that mob. At the same time, if you begin your catching before he even starts hitting the mob, he will not hit it again after his initial flurry of hits, because you have begun catching the mob.
If you do it correctly, the mob should have very little life left by the time your catching skill timer is over.

When my taming level was low, I hung around the taming NPC at Serene so that when the Taoist came, I could easily run into that fenced area. Once I was in that area, he would leave. Then I would tame in that area again.
As you level, he'll come to help you less often, and won't be a problem.

The worst are the ones riding the big panda. It tends to engulf either you or the mob, making it impossible to target individual mobs. And it's big butt takes up most of the screen so you can't even see the mob anymore.
There certainly are times when he's really helpful and appreciated. I just wish we could say "No thanks" at times.
Suggestions -- any one of these would make life much easier:
-- add a "no ascetic taoist help" option in the system menu
-- add a "go away" option when you try to talk to the taoist
-- make the taming process kick in quicker to make the timing easier
-- make the taoist stop attacking immediately when you initiate taming (like mobs react immediately when you initiate a combat skill, long before the skill actually kicks in)
