I have a suggestion, why not have the cooking skill be able to make pet food? That way the player can bring along the items to make his own pet food maybe add some stats on it for the pet, and can have the materials on him to make them when needed rather than holding the pet food.
Also what about having pets be able to equip items specifically for them. Like maybe a collar with stats or a leash that adds certain abilities. Just a thought.

Cool idea, Wanfei, and do not consider it as just a thought, actually the second idea that pets wear specific equipments that adds certain abilities is being acted out in recent days in China Mainland. I personally think the first idea is even cooler, having specific materials to cook various food for your own pet, how fun would that be!
I have submitted this idea to the relevant department, hoping they would consider it cool too!:p

I have to agree.
Though as I've only just last night achieved level 3 cooking, I kinda thought that stuff was already in the game and I hadn't found it yet.
Guess I was wrong.

This would greatly impact the economics.
Specifically, the equips..the market would have a much much higher demand for gems, sockecting items. Just everyone wants tricked out euip they will want for pets to. Just imagine a socketed and enchaned collar on a tiger :D
The food...here's an small idea. How about adding it to class skills.
ex: Let the Lotus make a pill/potion that adds stamina or Shaolin's adds Strength..etc.
This would create niche markets. People would search stalls for their needs that they cannot fill themselves. I could even see this as a major focus for a guild when trying to buy a city.
Econ 101 Supply and Demand .
