What are the best attributes to add points to?

I personally have not had a wolf, yet.
However - one good practice is to see what points are already high on your pet.
For example, an intelligence-based pet is going to have a higher intellegence when you tame it.
For me, this is pretty much what I do when I get a new pet - I keep the points high that started high. They wouldn't have high points in certain areas if the points weren't useful to that specific pet :)

I know it doesn't directly answer your question and I hope someone with wolf experience can shed a little more light - but I hope this helps, some.

For my personal preference I used 10 lvls of points for str. 10 level of points for stamina. then the rest I do 3 on agility 1 on stamina and 1 on strength. Reason is I need a pet to hit hard and miss none to help me kill mobs faster.

Also, if the pet's main attack is Magical then Int would be the way to go. Physical attack pets would need more of Strength.

In your pet info screen (Alt+X) check whether the pet has M <for Magical> or P <for Physical> to ascertain its attack type.

What if the pet is Balanced? Add str and int? Or choose whichever one?

In my opinion, we often add some points for Sta.Tal or Agi.Tal for balance pet. The balance pet can be used to buff for it's owner and makes bad effects on an enemy
