Reluctantly crouched at the starting line,
Engines pumping and thumping in time.
The green light flashes, the flags go up.
Churning and burning, they yearn for the cup.
Cake ~ The Distance

The openning day of CB DO has finally arrived :D. Just out of interest, what was your most favourite, and your least favourite feature of the game/day?

I have gotten my character to lvl 15 but it was not easy. Not because the leveling of a character is hard - but learning the game took some time.

First let me say that I have played or beta'd a good many games so I "know how to play" - be it different movement or attack etc. I am new to Dragon Oath but not mmo's.

My View of This game for a brand new player:

1) Camera angle drives me nuts :p The fact that the camera does Not go up and down (not zoom) is something that will Really take some getting use to! I tried the Alt/End-home thing and it didn't really do anything. My vision seems Very Limited the way it is now.

2) Not as User-Friendly as I would like to see. There is a lot of Learning-on-your-own kind of experimenting you need to do when brand new. Example - I STILL have not figured out how to get to Pet Island.;)

3) I love the auto-move to NPC or area's for quest(s)!! That to me is wonderful when you are trying to figure out where everything is!

4) Inventory space was a big problem for me. Without the Bank being available in early levels AND not knowing what to save - the space available fills up very fast. What the heck is a "Grid Box"??? I could find no explaination anywhere. I have found NO merchant NPC's when out of the main city. This also makes it hard to even finish a quest when you can't gather any more loot.

5) I do not see a pattern on the Crafting/gathering - seems I did get fishing and got the fishing pole along with the pickaxe and scythe (sp? For cutting herbs). But the harvesting or mining is not available until later levels. I have not found a "fishing hole" yet to test fishing. I can find nowhere to learn mining/harvesting.

6) I am disappointed that ingame chat gets NO help. There were 2 GM's right by the Master but neither one answered any questions. Also I received NO answers to any of my questions from other players. None. I still have not found the ability to Shout/Yell (I think I am high enough lvl to do this now)? So my questions were all asked in the local area chat.

I want to add that I am having fun - JinJer is Taoist. I guess 'we' get the alchemy skill but I am not high enough lvl to test this out.

I hope this didn't sound like all complaining - I am just trying to give my First Impressions and observations :p

I enjoyed it a ton! ;D

I haven't been playing it very frequently through out this afternoon and I've gotten to level 14* now. But I was very happy with how easy things were to figure out since they sent you mail explaining every step of the way, what you should be doing, etc.

Unfortunately, I still haven't bothered to get a pet, figure out how to get discipline, and haven't done any quests due to my lack of being able to click on anything in Da Li because so many people were there.

If anything tomorrow I'll work on getting to Level 20+, get my pet and train it, see if its possible for me to do my quests in Da Li, get some of those Dragon Spheres from an easy boss and get my Level 30 set.

I had never heard of Dragon Oath til today, but opening day of Closed Beta, I couldnt help myself... So far I am pleasantly surprised. I mananaged to get to 26 before shutting down and coming to look for info in the forums (rather than just trying to figure everything out myself).

I am not a big fan of the cameras, but its not too bad, I just wish they would zoom out a little farther, the fixed three-quarter view is alright once you get use to it. I do know someone posted a way to fix this, but I rather not do that personally.

The pets so far have been very nice, I got me a few, including a racoon I cleverly named "Imma Frog". I have not been in the least disappointed in this feature yet.

Quests and leveling have been quite a quick, comfortable pace (not sure what highest lvl or max lvl is at this point). I think the classes are quite nice, and with a good supply.

There has been quite a bit of confusion learning some things so far, but I am pro'ly largly responsible, seeing as i'm bad not to read things that pop up.

The quick answer (after all the rambling) is this: My favorite feature so far is the pets, as long as there is a big variety of them to be seen. My least favorite feature would be camera controls, which i'm learning to overlook, so to speak.

Very glad I found this game randomly. I think I'll be around a while. My IGN is Lazarus, i'm lvl 26.

(Looking for some friends to play with)

@ mappam

oh yeah, oops; sorry, i forgot to mention the fixed camera angle on my previous posts :S. I found it terribly frustrating too when i first started and, tbh, still do - especially when i come back to DO from playing other games with a non-static camera position.

I agree, the lack of knowledge-base, both within the game and external to the game, is one of the major hinderances of the game imho. Although i am glad to see - so far anyway - much of the NPC text which was not translated in PCB has seemingly been rectified. Still, as i mentioned previously, the finer points of the skills are much of a mystery to me.

@ Esquire

Yes, i quickly logged in just before work this morning (about noon in game-time) and found Da-li swarming with people. Lining up to talk to Master Zhuo was rather like lining up at the rest rooms at half-time at a major sporting event :p.

@Lazaruskendt

Rofl; i shall keep an eye out for your racoon (with an identity crisis). Lol, at one stage in PCB i had a monkey companion named George Bush :D. I personally enjoy the opportunity to customise in the game with things like the mood text above one's name, or the personalised pet names.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts on the first day folks. Hope it only gets better aye :).

For me, in the little i have played so far, the highlight is definitely seeing all the people in game; it was fantastic to be "noobing" out alongside others after a few weeks of relatively quiet streets of PCB DO.

My least favourite feature, so far, has been the (at times) hijacking of the public chat system by certain groups, which i found to be a little inconsiderate and impolite. I personally would much prefer those conversations to be kept on pm.

Anyway, send me a pm if you want to catch up in game.

Some players suck, bunch of viets spoke viet in the world chat; chineses, too, including bad words >.> all the maps are not opened yet; the cash shop, either. It's so hard to find a team.
My favorite thing is GMs are always with us:)they care about what happenning in game.
Just love this game^^
