Typical blood loss during surgery can be 1.0 lbs of blood. A good friend of yours has donated a gallon of blood per year for five years. How many surgeries could be performed in five years from your friend's donation? The density of blood is 1.125 x 10^3 kg/m^3?
1lbs= 454g

cant solve this to save my life and getting annoyed >< :confused:

ok dokey, let me give it a shot. time to wake me up.

first we need to convert the density to pounds per gallon:
1.0 m^3 = 264 gallons
1 kg = 2.2 lbs so 1125 kg = 2475 lbs.
2475 lbs. / 264 gallons = 9.375 lbs / gallon

5 gallons x 9.375 lbs/gallon = 46.875 lbs. of blood

so 46 surgeries :)
